Work Experience
As I have been completing my degree, I have learned an immense amount of teaching skills and accommodations that I can use to be the best teacher I can be. More importantly, the volunteering experiences I have had in different schools and programs and with different types of students (elementary students, ELLs in high school, adult learners in a college ELL program) have further impassioned me with my career choice. These experiences have been incredibly fulfilling as I have been able to bond with students and teachers/staff alike and gain wisdom and hands-on experience with teaching and being a mentee. I hope that I can use these experiences and knowledge to be the best I can be in my future career path as an EFL teacher.
I have completed service hours at elementary schools, high schools, and different ESOL programs, working with teachers and paraprofessionals in a variety of subjects. I have worked in small groups and one-on-one with students, assisting them with their math and language skills and developing their English language proficiency. Through these experiences, I have developed the ability to assess and address my learners' needs and can bridge that gap through my own teaching or with other resources that can assist my students with their specific needs. I want to continue building my experience and teaching around the world, meeting different types of learners and being a lifelong learner myself.
Through my travels, I hope that I can find myself in welcoming and immersive environments that allow me to learn about the local culture and find my own place to be comfortable within that culture. Depending on what resources I have, since different countries will operate differently in their educational systems, I will be able to create lesson plans and activities for students to do that will be engaging and insightful. Having the ability to teach and practice my values with students excites me, and I hope that I can help influence young learners to aim for high quality work in whatever they do and find their passion and follow it.
